I went to the F.S. as a student, first year when the FS was on board the TeVega, 1970-1973. First year, I loved it! Fifteen years old, I sailed around the West Indies and South America and the school was just ridiculous; fun; it was unbelievably fun! No rules except smoking; George said 'if it feels good, do it!' I could tell a bunch of funny stories about the first year on TeVega! re: Yachting Magazine (Jan 1973) had the article "The Living Ship Still Lives"

I was double captain and first of the three (Ilona Bostic, Bill 'boxhead' Rayner and me) Galley Bo'son.

  • What is my favorite memory from your time aboard? sailing at night in the West Indies
  • Least favorite? I remember writing a sarcastic FS brochure and hung it up on bulletin board next to the real FS brochure. And George was PISSED OFF!
  • Which particular sail do you remember most? every sail
  • Did your cabin develop "inspection immunity"? What cabin inspection?
  • Who aboard do you remember most, and why? George ('ol' prune face') Stoll and Anne Stoll
  • Ever lost a rank or two? never (rank revokes-I've never heard of that!?)
  • Do you find yourself using the things you learned at Flint School in day-to-day life? yes- The Cancer of the Unearned!!
  • Atlas Shrugged—love it

I got lots of pictures of the FS and a copy of the Seamanship Manual, but I don't have a scanner! What do I do? Send it you?

I Major in college is Engineering Mathematics and Computer Systems and my minor was mathematics, after college I went to in engineering co keeping the world safe for democracy, you know, nuke bombs. I quit my job and opened up a wine store (5000 types of wine!) and a deli in Dunedin fl. And then, I was 34 years old when I got the massive stroke. I sold the business and my wife got a job. Five years ago I started my own business: commodities and stocks trader. I live in south jersey, just a stones throw away from Philly.

PS Rad Howle is deceased, pretty bad news!
